We all know that taking public transit (despite how horrible it can be) is an environmentally friendly choice. Let's be honest though, it isn't always practical, feasible or desirable. Hybrid cars are a great option but expensive and not environmentally friendly if you're getting rid of a car that's already been produced and it in good working condition. Enter E10 and E85 fuels. Considering that you have to get expensive adjustments to your can for E85 and it's not widely available, let's stick with E10.
E10 - fuels that contain up to 10% ethanol and can be used in any car. Oddly enough, most of the biggest gas stations such as Petro Canada are a little behind on this (yeah, yeah, I know, it's business so it's not shocking). They're very excited to offer it at select stations in select locations. Sunoco, however, proudly offers E10 in all their gas. When asked what "up to 10%" means, a representative informed us that it varies slightly but the average for all their gas is above 9%. Consider forgoing your Petro Points every now and then when you pass a Sunoco station. Will it impact your life significantly? Probably not. Will it potentially impact other gas stations to increase their E10 production and help out the environment a bit? Probably.
A little more info from their website:
We take pride in our responsibility to the environment. All our gasolines are enhanced with ethanol – a clean burning, renewable resource. Ethanol helps reduce toxic carbon monoxide emissions by up to 30%. It's also a natural gasoline antifreeze in the winter.
